Passing of former UW-Green Bay Chancellor David Outcalt
Word has been received of the death Thursday afternoon (Nov. 7) of former UW-Green Bay Chancellor David L. Outcalt. He passed away in his native California at age 78 after battling cancer. Outcalt was the University’s second chancellor, serving from 1986 through 1993. His tenure was highlighted by enrollment and facilities growth for the University including construction of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts, new residence halls and an expanded Student Union. When he resigned the chancellorship, Outcalt joined the Business Administration faculty and was named Philip J. and Elizabeth B. Hendrickson Professor for Business. He retired in early January 1998, and was awarded the title chancellor emeritus. He came to UW-Green Bay from the University of Alaska, Anchorage, where he had been chancellor since 1981. He had previously taught mathematics at Claremont McKenna College, the University of California, Santa Barbara, and at Anchorage. He is survived by his second wife and four sons from his previous marriage to the late Marcia Outcalt. There is no word yet on funeral arrangements or memorial services.
