A reminder that an Open House celebration will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 21) for the grand opening of the Professional Program in Education Center for First Nation Studies. Located in Rose Hall 310, the center’s goal is help prepare K-12 teachers and university faculty to offer accurate, culturally competent instruction about the history, culture, sovereignty, and contemporary status of First Nations. The center has three tribal-elder, oral-tradition scholars in residence. The center is a resource center for Act 31, the Wisconsin statutes that require that each school board include instruction about the federally recognized Indian tribes and bands in Wisconsin.
