Education students present at regional conference
Eight students from UW-Green Bay’s Professional Program in Education who are preparing to become middle or high school science teachers attended the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) regional conference in Milwaukee, Nov. 9-11. Students attended sessions presented by Wisconsin science teachers, university professors and internationally known scholars that described innovative teaching strategies, assessment practices and other issues in science education, such as how to connect with students who don’t like science or how to increase middle school girls’ interest in science careers. Each student also created a science demonstration and presented their work at the preservice teacher Exploratorium. UWGB students were joined by science preservice teachers from UW-Milwaukee, UW-Whitewater and Edgewood College. “The Exploratorium was a huge success. The program coordinator for the next NSTA conference commented that every conference from now on needs to have a pre-service teacher Exploratorium,” noted Scott Ashmann, associate professor of science education and Education advisor of these students.
