Prof. Kimberley Reilly interviewed for WPR about 19th century attitudes on abortion

Wisconsin’s 1858 law banning most abortions has been in effect since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June. But how did we get here? Why did that law stay on the books without being enforced for over 160 years? And why did 19th-century lawmakers want to restrict abortion in the first place? Prof. Mary Ziegler, University of California-Davis School of Law and Prof. Kimberley Reilly, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, explain the social and political context that led every state except Kentucky to ban abortion by the end of the 19th century.
