Eagle Scout (new UW-Green Bay freshman) speaks to Wautoma Kiwanis | Waushara Argus
Andrew Momsen spoke to the Wautoma Area Kiwanis Club, at the Thursday morning meeting on Aug.t 19. Andrew is a 2021 graduate of Wautoma High School and one of his most meaningful accomplishments in his young life has been becoming an Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America.Andrew started his scouting career as a Cub Scout when he was in 1st grade. Around 5th or 6th grade, he crossed over to Boy Scouts because it offered him more chances to take on more personal responsibility and have more challenging experiences. As a Boy Scout, Andrew had to learn the Scout Law and work to earn merit badges. To date he has earned 30 badges which regaled his sash as he spoke in uniform to the group. When asked about the various merit badges, Andrew said his First Aid Merit Badge was the most challenging because it was paperwork intensive. His favorite badges earned were the ones for swimming and fingerprinting.By far, the most meaningful of all his scouting experiences was his Eagle Scout project. To earn this honor, Andrew had to follow three steps: Step one was writing his proposal; Step two was to write and carry out his plan; Step three was reporting how it went.Andrew chose to build new benches for the Youth Soccer field at St. Joseph’s church. This was where he had played soccer before high school and the benches were very worn. Andrew made eight benches, each 2×8 ft., thus giving back to a program that meant so much to him as a child as well as blessing current and future Wautoma Area students. When Andrew earned his Eagle Scout he was honored with a ceremony which was attended by Rep. Scott Krug, US Rep. Glenn Grothman, and Rep. Kevin Petersen.
Andrew will be attending UW-Green Bay where he will begin his studies to become a doctor.
