UW-Green Bay students were awarded $4,371,000 in grants
Green Bay, Wis. —In early September, 2,914 UW-Green Bay students were awarded $1,500 grants for a total of $4,371,000.
The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP), was authorized by Congress and signed into law on March 11, 2021. The Act has provided funding to the University to assist students who may have been impacted by the pandemic.
The grants received under this Act can be used for any component of students’ cost of attendance (tuition, housing, food, etc.) or for emergency costs that arise due to the coronavirus, such as health care or child care.
Assistant Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management Jen Jones said UW-Green Bay students were overwhelmingly grateful for the assistance.
“UW-Green Bay students have definitely risen above the pandemic, but it often carried with it a huge financial burden, particularly for those who have people depending on them,” Jones said. “Students told us that it made a significant difference in their lives during a difficult time.”
Jones notes that not all students received funds. Students didn’t have to apply for the award but were identified from their FAFSA forms. Funds were provided directly to the students through the Billing Office’s refund process without applying to any University balance or affecting any other financial aid.
If a student wasn’t included in the award but has financial need, they still have an opportunity to apply for an Emergency Grant.
The distribution of the funds is not unique to UW-Green Bay, but amounts of students and dollar amounts can vary by institution.
