UW-Green Bay SBDC to partner in presenting franchise opportunities workshop
The UW-Green Bay Small Business Development Center will partner with the city of Green Bay and other entities to offer an “Opportunities in Franchising” workshop from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 10 at the Hyatt on Main, 333 Main St., Green Bay.
Presented by the International Franchise Association (IFA), the oldest and largest trade association representing franchising, the workshop is designed for for individuals who want to own or expand their own business, as well as those who have a general interest in learning how a franchise works. Workshop participants will learn from franchisors, franchisees, a franchise coach and a franchise attorney during the daylong event. They will be introduced to financial and tech-savvy individuals who can help them pursue their goal of business ownership. Special incentives for minorities and women to become franchise owners also will be discussed.
Franchised businesses play an important role in the health of the U.S. economy, according to Miriam L. Brewer, Senior Director of Education and Diversity for the IFA. There are more than 825,000 franchise businesses across 300 business lines that provide nearly 18 million jobs — and generate more than $21 trillion for the U.S. economy — IFA statistics show.
The cost for the “Opportunities in Franchising” workshop is $25, which includes course materials, a continental breakfast, and lunch. Attendees must register in advance by going to the SBDC website, www.uwgb.edu/sbdc. An event flier also is available for download at the site. Contact SBDC Director Ryan Kauth (920-496-2112; kauthr@uwgb.edu) for more information.
The workshop is hosted by the city of Green Bay, the IFA, the UW-Green Bay SBDC, SCORE, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College and Advance — a division of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce.
