UW-Green Bay Summer Camps back for 59th summer
Camps include a no-cost Gen-Cyber Camp for students in grades 7-9
GREEN BAY – In just over a month, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s campus will once again be taken over by approximately 1,000 middle and high school students. The 2017 summer camp season marks the 59th year that UW-Green Bay has offered summer youth camps.
UW-Green Bay offers over 10 camps in a variety of areas that include art, music, healthcare, business and technology. These camps include both overnight and commuter options. New this year are a Junior Achievement camp and a cybersecurity camp called GenCyber (offered at no cost).
The Junior Achievement Camp is in partnership with the local Junior Achievement chapter. This camp is a career exploration camp for those with an entrepreneurial mindset. The camp combines Junior Achievement’s traditional entrepreneurship program with a hands-on campus opportunity to experiment with different career fields. Just like a real world entrepreneur, the week culminates with a presentation of students’ business concept to a panel of local business executives and community leaders who take the ideas into consideration. This camp offers a co-ed and a girl’s camp over the course of two weeks for students entering grades 8-12.
The GenCyber program provides summer cybersecurity camp experiences for students in grades 7-9. The goals of the program are to help all students understand correct and safe on-line behavior, increase diversity and interest in cybersecurity and careers in the cybersecurity workforce of the Nation. To ensure a level playing field, GenCyber camps are open to all student participants at no cost. Funding is provided jointly by the National Security Agency and the National Science Foundation.
Camp registration for most camps this summer is still open. We encourage registration two weeks prior to the start of camp to ensure the camper receives a camp T-shirt. For more information about each camp and to register, visit www.uwgbsummercamps.com. For registration questions, contact us at summercamps@uwgb.edu or (920) 465-2775.
UW-Green Bay Summer Camps is licensed by the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services for Camps and Recreational Programs. Residential campers are supervised after instructional hours by trained camp staff and professional medical staff who are on duty around the clock. With a student/staff ratio of no more than 10:1, students enjoy professional instruction during the day from experts in the field and participate in an array of supervised fun evening activities.
In addition to the camps themselves, UW-Green Bay features campus attractions such as Frisbee golf, a nine-hole golf course, the Phoenix Club and fitness and swimming facilities. Camp classes meet in University classrooms, studios and professional performing and rehearsal spaces.
