Florida International University Leader Named New Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Campus Climate at UW-Green Bay
Leader from Fourth-Largest U.S. University to Lead Efforts to Create Inclusive, Vibrant Campus
Green Bay, Wis. — Eric E. Arneson, Ed.D., current Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at Florida International University, has been named Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Campus Climate at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay. UW-Green Bay Chancellor Gary L. Miller announced the appointment today.
“Our campus community continues to evolve and change, and we must do more to meet the needs of our diversifying student population,” said Miller. “Dr. Arneson’s deep experience with student services and inclusion at Florida International University, and throughout his 25+ year career, make him uniquely qualified for this role and we fully expect he will take our university to the next level.”

Arneson, who will also serve as the Dean of Students, will be the senior leader for the areas of Residence Life, Student Life, Counseling and Health Services, American Intercultural Center, Judicial Affairs, Career Services, Student Government and Disability Services. The position is also responsible for supporting the success of all students by leading the University’s initiatives to create and sustain a campus culture that fully welcomes and advocates for diversity and inclusiveness for all members of the UW-Green Bay community.
Creating a more inclusive environment and a vibrant campus are both mission critical. According to Miller, it’s no secret that UW-Green Bay is often thought of as a quiet, park-like campus. “We know a vibrant student life program that nurtures students of all backgrounds and interests increases student success,” Miller noted. In his new role, Arneson will spearhead these efforts by building partnerships with students, faculty and staff to create a vision and plan for making UW-Green Bay a more inclusive community and one that embraces all members of the Phoenix.
“I cannot wait to engage with and learn from the UW-Green Bay students, faculty and staff and work with them to create an exciting and dynamic campus climate,” says Arneson. “Creating a campus community where everyone feels they are a valued part of the UW-Green Bay tapestry is critical to this role and the future success of the University.”
Arneson served as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at Florida International University (FIU), a Hispanic-serving institution of 56,000 students, since October 2012. In that role he set the vision and direction for all aspects of Student Affairs on FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus of 7,500 students. Arneson directly oversaw Student Affairs and had direct supervision of the student union, student media, new student orientation, campus life, wellness and recreation. In addition, he helped form and advise the Black Student Union at FIU.
He has worked for more than two decades in various aspects of university administration at campuses in the Midwest and Southern U.S. Arneson earned his Doctor of Higher Education degree from Florida International University in 2011, a Master of Arts in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. He will assume his new duties at UW-Green Bay on July 1, 2017.
