UW-Green Bay to host first-ever GenCyber student camp in Wisconsin
GREEN BAY – The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will host the first-ever GenCyber student camp in the state of Wisconsin — July 31 to August 4, 2017. The camp will immerse a diverse group of up to 100 students in an intensive, one-week cybersecurity educational camp experience.
The no-cost camp targets Northeast Wisconsin students in grades 7-9 traditionally underrepresented in computer science fields of study and careers. The mission of the program is to attract, educate and inspire a new generation of college bound students to the critical field of cybersecurity.
Guided by Cyber First Principles, the GenCyber camp will provide opportunities for participants to increase their knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, ethics and principles, increase student interest in pursuing a career in cybersecurity and educate students about correct and safe on-line behavior.
The UW-Green Bay Division of Continuing Education and Community Engagement was awarded a grant from the GenCyber program. The National Security Agency is providing the funds for the camp. Leading the effort will be the Division of Continuing Education’s Executive Director Joy Ruzek and Director of Camps and Conferences Jason Mathwig, along with Assistant Prof. Ankur Chattopadhyay (Information and Computing Science) and Joel Williquette, CIO of Capital Credit Union.
The camp is designed and will be instructed by the UW-Green Bay Information and Computing Science program in collaboration with cybersecurity industry experts, the National Security Agency and the Division of Continuing Education and Community Engagement.
Registration is now open at www.uwgb.edu/camps/technology/gencyber. Contact Jason Mathwig with additional questions at mathwigj@uwgb.edu or 920-465-2267.
