Brazilian duo to headline semester’s first 360° Thursdays concert

Brazilian duo to perform at 360 Thursdays concert

UW-Green Bay Music will kick off its spring semester of 360° Thursdays concerts with a Brazilian duo who will take the stage Feb. 5.

Soprano Yuka De Almeida Prado and guitarist Gustavo Costa will perform works by José Gustavo Julião de Camargo, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Manuel De Falla during the lecture-concert event. The program order will be announced at the beginning of the concert.

An award-winning guitarist, Costa has performed guitar concertos in France, Spain, Italy and Brazil. As a chamber musician, he was one of the Brazilian Guitar Quartet members awarded in 2011 with the Latin Grammy for a CD dedicated to Villa-Lobos works. He is the head of the Music Department of the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters at the University of Sao Paulo-Ribeirao Preto, Brazil, where he teaches guitar and viola caipira (10-string guitar).

A Japanese Brazilian born in Brazil, Prado focused her studies on Japanese and French art songs while in Japan, where she performed in concerts and recitals. As a chamber musician in Brazil, she has presented a large repertoire of Brazilian art songs and also has performed in Germany, Switzerland and Italy. Prado is an assistant professor of singing at the University of Sao Paulo-Ribeirao Preto, where she met UW-Green Bay Prof. Sarah Meredith Livingston while the latter was teaching and performing there on a Fulbright grant. Prado performed a recital in Fort Howard Hall at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts in 2012.

Each 360° Thursdays performance takes place at 6:30 p.m. in Fort Howard Hall at the Weidner Center on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive. Concerts are free but a $5 suggested donation is appreciated.
