One such student, Aileen Colonia Herdan, shares her transformative journey and goals for the future. On Saturday, December 14, 2024, Herdan will graduate with her Master’s of Science in Management.

Coming from a Latina family, education was always emphasized as a pathway to opportunities. This commitment to personal development led her to apply and accept her place at the university, a decision she viewed as a way for her to grow.

“My journey to the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay was driven by my passion for leadership and desire to grow personally and professionally…a door opening to a brighter future…a chance to develop skills I need to succeed while honoring my roots.”

During her time at UWGB, she experienced not only academic excellence but also extensive hands-on opportunities. Working part-time at the Office of International Education provided her practical marketing experience, where she learned the importance of merging professionalism with authenticity. “The university’s supportive community encouraged me to embrace challenges and view obstacles as opportunities for growth.”

The part-time position also broadened her cultural horizons and deepened her understanding of global marketing. “Interacting with individuals from all over the world taught me to appreciate different perspectives and adapt marketing strategies to resonate with diverse audiences.”

One standout aspect of her university journey has been the cultivation of inclusion. Through collaborative projects and networking opportunities, she believes in the transformative power of education and its ability to uplift communities.

“This institution gave me more than just an education; it provided a platform to grow as a leader.”

Despite facing significant challenges, such as managing her academic responsibilities while raising two young children, Herdan’s resilience shone through. She highlights the importance of teamwork with her husband and the flexible course schedules offered by UWGB. “The flexibility provided by the university’s course schedules played a significant role in helping me pursue my degree successfully while managing my responsibilities,” she said.

As a Phoenix, she has acquired the necessary skills, developed an awareness of multiculturalism, and enhanced her ability to engage with diverse audiences. These skills will be crucial for her future goals. She explained, “Through my coursework and work at the Office of International Education, I learned how to analyze audience demographics and tailor messaging to resonate with different cultural perspectives.”

Upon graduation, she aims to establish a digital agency dedicated to creating meaningful campaigns that connect diverse audiences with impactful brands. In addition, her commitment to mentoring young professionals from underrepresented backgrounds, inspiring them to dream big and to follow through with their goals, is a testament to her bright future as a leader.

Community engagement will be at the core of her digital agency’s mission. “I believe impactful marketing begins with understanding the needs and stories of the communities we serve,” she shared. She is committed to building partnerships with local organizations and prioritizing initiatives that empower underrepresented voices in the region.
