Attention Packers Fans: UW-Green Bay expands Green Bay Packers collaboration with new ‘Return to Glory’ certificate program this fall

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 25, 2024

Green Bay, WI — UW-Green Bay expands their collaboration with the Green Bay Packers with a new certificate program, ‘Green Bay Packers Return to Glory.’ Just in time for football season, the certificate highlights the Packers return to greatness as an NFL flagship franchise after years of mediocrity, with the hire of Hall of Fame General Manager Ron Wolf.

Beginning in early September, fans will learn from Brent Hensel, curator of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame. As the Packers create special moments on and off the field each season, Hensel’s responsibility is to preserve that history by recording, safeguarding and illustrating the big and small moments for fans. The registration fee for the certificate program includes admission to the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.

“I am excited to once again be collaborating with UW-Green Bay on a continuing education class on Green Bay Packers history,” said Hensel. “It’s compelling to revisit the last 50 years of the team’s history with the class.”

With the departure of legendary coach Vince Lombardi, the Packers struggled in mediocrity for more than two decades. Then, Bob Harlan hired Ron Wolf and almost overnight the Packers regained their status as one of NFL’s flagship franchises, winning Super Bowls in 1996 and 2010 and appearing in four NFC Championship games in ten seasons (2007-2016). The sessions will cover important events and personalities from the Packers’ return to prominence from the 1970s to today, including:

  • Black and Blue Division – Reliving the ugly, physical football of the 1970s.
  • Flirting with Success – Re-experiencing the anticipation of Bart Starr and Forrest Gregg returning to the Green Bay Packers as coaches.
  • An Architect of Unlikely Resurgence – Recounting Ron Wolf’s strategic moves that lead to the Packers Super Bowl XXXI win.
  • Knocking at the Door – Revisiting the Packers’ next 13 seasons, close wins and heartbreaks.
  • A Driving Force – Understanding the importance of the Lambeau Field development.
  • Super Bowl XLV – Delving into the Green Bay Packers draft-and-develop philosophy and the opportunity of free agency.
  • An NFC Thrill Ride – Returning to the excitement of the Packers close playoff calls.
  • Pedigree Wins Out – Appreciating the Packers commitment to quality coaches and players.

When participants complete the program, they will earn an exclusive UW-Green Bay digital badge distinguished by the Packers “G.”
