Skier Freeman competes at NCAAs with coach’s memory along for the journey
UW-Green Bay Nordic skier Carolyn Freeman, of Ely, Minn., participated recently in the 2011 NCAA Skiing Championships in Stowe, Vt. Last Friday, the senior concluded her Phoenix career with a 34th-place finish in the 15K Classic race, crossing the line in 59:26.6. Last Wednesday, she placed 15th in the 5K Freestyle with a time of 15:06.8. That showing was the best by a Phoenix women’s skier at the NCAA Championships since Laura Anderson’s ninth-place finish in the 15K freestyle in 2001. Freeman’s trip to nationals was especially poignant, with the death last year of UW-Green Bay ski coach Butch Reimer. Fox 11 did a wonderful story on the Freeman/Reimer connection.
