Green Bay women climb back to top of Horizon League, welcome back Coach Hammerle
The Phoenix women’s basketball team (11-6, 6-1) returns home after a pair of wins in Michigan (and five-straight against conference foes) helped them climb back into first place in the Horizon League. On Thursday, the Phoenix hosts UIC for the start of a five-game homestand. The road trip held plenty of good news for the battered Phoenix, playing without three original starters. Freshman Hailey Oskey was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week after her pivotal role in Green Bay’s 2-0 road record. Oskey shined with a career performance at Detroit Mercy, turning in a career-high 20 points and burying six triples in nine attempts. Saturday’s 1 p.m. game will welcome back Phoenix Hall-of-Fame Coach Carol Hammerle and more than 30 women’s basketball alumni. The first 750 fans receive a Hammerle bobblehead. For both games, high school students can receive free admission by showing their high school IDs at the box office.
