Phoenix women’s basketball No. 1 in the nation? That’s what it says
TV-2 reported this on Monday night and, sure enough: The UW-Green Bay women’s basketball team is rated No. 1 in the country according to at least one of those RPI power ranking websites. Take it with a grain of salt, based on only three games and piling up points with a relatively challenging non-conference slate (vs. George Washington, Minnesota and Wisconsin), but according to the computer, one week in, We’re No. 1! At RealTimeRPI.com.
In the first ESPN/USA Today coaches poll of the new season, the Phoenix women fell just one point shy of tying TCU (70 points) for the No. 25 spot in the Division I rankings. The Green Bay women are a few spots lower than that in the AP sportswriters’ poll. Either way, it’s a sign of continuing respect for the program. Never before has the Phoenix been ranked so high, so early. See more.
