MARINETTE — A powerful coalition of financial institutions, law enforcement agencies, and community organizations will present “Fraud Defense: True Stories. Real Scams” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the UW-Green Bay — Marinette Campus theatre, 750 W. Bay Shore St.

The evening will be hosted by Jim Callow, Operations Manager for Bay Cities Radio and co-host of the “Chuck and Jim Show” mornings on Classic Hits 103.7 and WAGN. Callow has been a fixture in local radio for over 50 years, covering the news for much of that time. Recently, he was honored as a Local Broadcast Legend by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association for his on-air contributions and community service.

The event is free and open to the public with no reservations needed.

Fraud is a pervasive threat in today’s society, impacting both individuals and businesses, according to a press release. “Fraud Defense: True Stories. Real Scams.” aims to equip attendees with the knowledge and tools to recognize and prevent fraud.

The event will feature live speakers from financial institutions, police departments, and other relevant fields who will share true stories and real scams that occur daily in our communities. Their insights will provide valuable guidance on identifying and avoiding fraudulent schemes.

Featured Speakers:

• Courtney Klitzke, Branch Manager, Integra First Federal Credit Union. She oversees daily operations and ensures excellent member service. She emphasizes a proactive approach to fraud prevention and is dedicated to safeguarding members by working with them to implement financial security practices.

• Kelly Heroux, CEO & President, Peshtigo National Bank. She has over 20 years of experience in the financial industry. She promotes a customer-centric culture, proactively prevents fraud, and is committed to community engagement.

• Lynn Lowis, AVP Deposit Operations, Stephenson National Bank & Trust. She oversees Deposit Operations and the Contact Center. With nearly 30 years of experience at SNBT, she excels in assisting clients with everyday banking needs and fraud-related account reconciliation.• Jamie Nystrom, Senior Vice President, Chief Operations Officer, Peshtigo National Bank. She demonstrates outstanding operational efficiency and financial security. Her expertise in fraud prevention and dedication to a secure financial environment make her an invaluable asset to the bank.

• Fred Popp, Chief of Peshtigo Police Department. He is dedicated to public safety and fraud prevention. With a distinguished law enforcement career, he leads with integrity and a proactive crime prevention approach.

• Sergeant Derrik Maye, City of Marinette Police Department. He has eight years in law enforcement experience, investigates drug crimes in Marinette County and is part of the Northeast Wisconsin Tri County Drug Enforcement Group. He’s also a Federal Task Force Officer for the DEA, with extensive training in cybercrimes, fraud, embezzlement, and digital currency crimes.

• Detective Zack Neumann, City of Marinette Police Department. He has been in law enforcement for four years, with two years of experience in the City of Winona, Minnesota, and the past two years serving in Marinette. His expertise includes investigating online fraud cases and embezzlement.

• Detective Sergeant Darrin Kudwa, City of Menominee Police Department. He has 16 years of law enforcement experience including road patrol, special assignment with the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team, and instructor roles.

• Patrol Sgt. Andrew Bunch, City of Menominee Police Department. He has successfully completing DRE (Drug Recognition Experts) training.

Organizers say the event promises to be an enlightening experience with practical advice and strategies to safeguard against fraud. In addition to the speaker sessions, various resources will be available in the hallways for attendees to connect with and gather more information. These resources will offer additional support and information on fraud prevention and protection. Refreshments will be available, allowing attendees to network and discuss the topics covered during the event.
