In the news: Camp Lloyd provides fun, healing for kids coping with loss
Now in its eighth year, UW-Green Bay’s Camp Lloyd continues to fulfill its mission of helping kids who are grieving the death of a loved one. Camp kicked off Monday (June 17), and both the Green Bay Press-Gazette and NBC 26 stopped by to tell the story of this special day camp, begun in 2006 by Human Development Prof. Illene Cupit. WLUK, Fox 11 came to campus Tuesday, exploring how Camp Lloyd combines traditional day camp activities (crafts, games, music, swimming) with more specialized grief activities designed to help children cope — and to know they’re not alone. Camp Lloyd relies on professional grief therapists, as well as Camp Lloyd “buddies” (trained student interns) to provide a fun and healing environment. Great stories, pictures and video:
