State grant helps Bay Beach toward goal of having swimming by 2020

A state grant of $100,000, hand-delivered to Green Bay by Gov. Tony Evers on Tuesday, moved the city a giant butterfly stroke closer to its plans to build a swimming beach at Bay Beach Amusement Park. (Bay Beach is minutes from the Green Bay campus).

“The enhanced access opportunities will foster the community’s relationship with our coastal resources for all generations, but especially our youth,” Evers told a group in a press conference behind the Bay Beach Pavilion. “A hundred years ago, Bay Beach was popular and saw hundreds of visitors every summer. Pollution ended all that. It’s not been a swimming beach since.

“This grant of $100,000 supports Green Bay’s efforts to restore the beach,” he said.
