Heirloom Plant Sale featured in spring issue of Edible Door

UW-Green Bay’s ever-popular Heirloom Plant Sale is featured in the spring 2014 edition of Edible Door magazine, a publication that highlights the foods, culinary heritage and communities of Northeastern Wisconsin. The story offers a look at the humble beginnings and history of the sale, which has blossomed in popularity and is now approaching its 18th annual iteration. Loyal Log readers will know the proceeds from the popular event help fund student research, and that the variety of delicious vegetables, herbs and beautiful flowers can’t be beat. Still, there’s yet another good reason to hit up the sale, according to faculty member Vicki Medland, who spearheads the sale. “If people don’t continue to plant these plants, the varieties are going to die out,” the Edible Door story says. “It is a living seed so it has to be planted and shared every year.” You can check out the full story on page 32 of the spring edition.
