2025 Hardy Gallery Exhibits Announced | UWGB Professor Emerita Kristy Deetz to Judge the Event | Door Co. Pulse

The Hardy Gallery will open for its 63rd season May 23, starting with its annual Wall-to-Wall Juried Exhibit May 23 – July 6.

The show features emerging and established Midwest artists working in a variety of media. This year’s judge is University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Professor Emerita Kristy Deetz.

During the exhibit, the public can vote for their favorite piece to receive the People’s Choice Award. An opening reception will be held May 23, 5:30-7 pm, and a juror talk will take place June 13, 2-3 pm.

The Collection Invitational and Collector’s Choice Benefit will be displayed July 11 – Aug. 24. The exhibit features two works by more than 40 established local and regional artists. Each artist donates one of their works to the Collector’s Choice Benefit, the Hardy’s largest special-event fundraiser.

Hung in tandem with the Collection Invitational is the Community Mosaic Project, featuring around 300 6-by-6-inch tiles decorated by members of the public. During the exhibit, patrons can purchase one of the canvases in a blind mailing; all proceeds benefit the Hardy.

Those interested in participating in the mosaic project can get a 6-by-6-inch canvas for free at Artists Guild, 215 N. 3rd Ave. in Sturgeon Bay, or the Hardy Gallery, 3083 Anderson Lane in Ephraim, beginning May 23. The mosaic will be unveiled and an opening reception will be held July 11, 5:30-7 pm.

This year, Hardy Gallery’s coveted third exhibit – the only show in the year that is actively curated – is Kickin’ Up the Chroma, on display Aug. 29 – Oct. 12.

The exhibit will feature three significant local artists who work with colors in inventive ways – Lynn Gilchrist, Liz Maltman and Reneé Schwaller. An opening reception will be held Aug. 29, 5:30-7 pm.

Each featured artist draws inspiration from nature and enhances the chroma – the purity or intensity of color – beyond what we typically perceive. Maltman and Gilchrist incorporate dizzying brushwork, shifting perspectives, layering and patterned elements, defying many conventions associated with the landscape genre. Potter Schwaller uses transparent glazes and opaque, graphic carved elements that complement the painterly mark-making of Maltman and Gilchrist.

The gallery will be closed for exhibit installation May 19-23, July 7-11 and Aug. 25-29. All exhibits end on Sundays at 3 pm. The gallery will close for the season Oct. 12.

The Hardy Gallery is located at 3083 Anderson Lane in Ephraim.
