In the news: College ‘confessions’ page creates a buzz
By using survey/comment software to lend anonymity to Facebook, people behind the new college “confessions” sites are drawing thousands of “likes” and countless more readers at campuses across the UW System and across the country. Some of the so-called confessions involve drinking or hookup exploits – drawing criticism at some institutions as reflecting poorly on the student body, enabling bullying, or glorifying inappropriate behavior — while others involve students sharing thoughts about self-image, self-doubt and even feelings of depression. Communication spokesman Chris Sampson, who consulted with legal, network and Dean of Students professionals beforehand, told NBC-26 that UWGB officials are aware of the site but also appreciate there are possible positive aspects.
