A newly published sports book getting some publicity nationally rates a 1991 NCAA tournament game involving UW-Green Bay among the 100 most exciting tourney games of all time. The Ultimate Book of March Madness puts Michigan State’s 60-58 victory over the Phoenix at No. 64 thanks to the buzzer-beating shot by Spartan (and future NBA) star Steve Smith with defender Ben Johnson draped all over him. (Why no 1994 Cal upset? The book mostly focuses on last-second shots and huge comebacks.) For what it’s worth, the top three finishes were Loyola over Cincinnati in 1963, Jim Valvano’s NC State over Phi Slamma Jamma in 1983, and the 104-103 Duke/Kentucky Christian Laettner game in 1992.
