Luczaj is co-author of new text on historical geology

The fourth edition of Earth System History is due out in early April from W.H. Freeman & Company. The book is described as the only textbook for the historical geology course written from a truly integrated Earth systems perspective. Associate Prof. John Luczaj of Natural and Applied Sciences, chair of the UW-Green Bay Geoscience program, is co-author.

Luczaj was invited to participate in updating the text by primary author Steven M. Stanley, the distinguished longtime paleontologist and evolutionary biologist on the faculty of Johns Hopkins University, and the recent recipient of the Geological Society of America’s highest honor, the Penrose Medal. Stanley is now on the faculty of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The fourth edition of the book originally published in 1998 is the first to have a co-author.

The updated new edition includes new sections on mass extinctions, climate change, and Proterozoic history, plus a range of interactive studying and teaching tools.
