Instrumental and vocal jazz ensembles perform March 10
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay music program will present an evening of instrumental and vocal jazz at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, in the University Theatre, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
In the 19th concert of the 2009-2010 season, UW-Green Bay students and faculty will cover music ranging from the funk of Horace Silver to the pop of Carole King and the sophistication of Manhattan Transfer.
The concert will begin with UW-Green Bay Assistant Prof. Adam Gaines directing Jazz Ensemble II through three selections, including an arrangement of “Just a Gigolo/I Ain’t Got Nobody.” The medley was a hit for David Lee Roth and Louis Prima before that.
Next to take the stage will be the Vocal Jazz Ensemble under the direction of adjunct instructor Christine Salerno. They’ll be featured in four numbers, opening with the Charlie Parker tune, “My Little Suede Shoes.”
At intermission there will be a performance by the UW-Green Bay faculty combo featuring Gaines, Chris and John Salerno, Stefan Hall, Craig Hanke and Ben Hogan.
Following the intermission Associate Prof. John Salerno will lead Jazz Ensemble I through four selections, including “Sister Sadie” by Horace Silver, which will feature Ben Hogan on vibes, Julio Reyes on saxophone, Zack Gruzinski on guitar, and Erin Zimmerman, trumpet.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets are available through UW-Green Bay Ticketing Services, (800) 328-8587, (920) 465-2217, or www.uwgb.edu/tickets.
