Take notice – Phoenix men’s soccer team is off to a kickin’ start
The Phoenix men’s soccer team is off to a start that rivals 1977 — one of the best seasons in program history. This year’s Green Bay squad is 5-0-2 after a season-opener 3-3 tie against Northwestern, followed by four straight wins, all on the road, against De Paul, Western Michigan, Pittsburgh and Robert Morris, and another win and a tie. The Phoenix is getting votes in both the Great Lakes Region rankings and the most recent College Soccer News Poll.
In 1977, the team won its first four matches before a 2-2 tie to St. Thomas ended the streak. The 1977 squad finished 14-4-2 and advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four before falling to New Haven in double overtime.
The Phoenix takes to the road to begin Horizon League play this weekend but returns home for a four-match homestand beginning Friday, Oct. 2, which includes the Wisconsin Badgers on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
