‘Romeo’ slideshow: Prof-turned-playwright opens new musical comedy
The curtain lifts July 12 at the Weidner Center on the world premiere of “Searching for Romeo,” an original musical comedy penned by UW-Green Bay English Prof. Brian Sutton.
Curtain time is 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Jean Weidner Theatre, with an additional performance added at 2 p.m. Saturday (July 14) in response to ticket demand.
Sutton says his comedy re-imagines the story of Romeo and Juliet from the perspective of the “losers,” Paris and Rosaline, who achieve what eternally eludes the more famous couple: a happy ending. Although Sutton’s academic specialty is neither creative writing, theatre nor music, colleagues and critics praised his early drafts of both script and music, and encouraged him to produce the show.
