University of Michigan will show ‘American Sniper,’ after all

After a day filled with intense debate, the University of Michigan reversed course late Wednesday night and decided to show the movie “American Sniper” at its originally scheduled time and place. An earlier decision to cancel the showing drew criticism from some quarters. The Detroit Free Press reports the university’s student life office had dropped the planned showing of the Iraq War movie after students, mostly Muslim and/or Arab, complained the film was offensive and threatening to diverse audiences. The drive, which included a letter signed by hundreds of fellow students, led the university’s Center for Campus Involvement to pull the film from its lineup of UMix events, and replace it with a screening of the less controversial movie “Paddington.”

Meanwhile, at UW-Green Bay…
This week’s Hollywood movie on the campus CheapSeats series is “American Sniper.” Multiple showings are scheduled through Sunday in the Union’s Christie Theatre. For times, see the calendar.
