Hundreds of students, faculty and staff will be serving the region on UW-Green Bay Day of Service
Green Bay, WI – UW-Green Bay’s annual “Day of Service” event is being held on Friday, October 7. For the second year in a row, students, faculty and staff of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campuses are being asked to give back to the communities they serve. True to the mission of the region’s comprehensive, public university, Chancellor Alexander challenges all participants to reach out, connect and serve the communities in ways they need it most.
“Volunteering at the many locations within our region creates positive change, and we see, first-hand, the incredible impact this service has on the people right here in our neighborhoods,” Alexander noted. “We create powerful bonds with each other and our communities when we do positive work together to support others – something that is always needed in our communities.”
Day of Service volunteers will take to the region from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a number of organizations in our area hosting UW-Green Bay volunteers including:
- Aldo Leopold School Beautification
- Jackie Nitschke Center
- Journey to Adult Success
- Marinette St. Vincent DePaul
- Seed Collection from Keith White Prairie
- Sheboygan Habitat for Humanity
- Shorewood Clean Up
- Violence Intervention Project
- Baird Creek
- Downtown Green Bay
- Extension Brown County
- Family Services Sexual Assault Center
- Forest to Brook Enrichment Education Services
- Mandolin Foundation and Amanda’s House
- National Railroad Museum
- New Community Shelter
- NEW Zoo: Zoo Boo
- Paul’s Pantry
- John’s Homeless Shelter
- Wisconsin Humane Society
In 2021, more than 500 members of the UW-Green Bay community participated, providing an estimated 2,000 hours of community service. Volunteer activities ranged from prepping food for local community shelters to fall clean-up to painting projects. The Day of Service includes all four UW-Green Bay campus locations in Green Bay, Marinette, Manitowoc and Sheboygan.
