Freshman Kamari McGee leads GB men’s basketball into Horizon League Tourney

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Green Bay men’s basketball guard Kamari McGee has been named the Nike #HLMBB Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. It’s the third time McGee has received the honor this year.

McGee led Green Bay to a 1-1 week to close out the regular season Horizon League schedule this past week. He was huge in GB’s narrow 81-77 loss at UIC, finishing with 20 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals in 31 minutes. McGee shot 7-of-15 from the floor and 2-of-5 from three-point range. McGee also led the Phoenix in a 67-41 win over IUPUI on Saturday, going for 13 points, two assists, and four steals. The guard was even more efficient against the Jaguars, finishing 6-for-10 from the field. On the week, McGee averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 3.5 steals per game to go along with 52.0-percent shooting from the field and 33.3-percent shooting from deep.

Green Bay finished as the Horizon League’s No. 11 seed and will travel to No. 6 Detroit Mercy for a first-round match-up March 1. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CT.
