Faculty clarinet recital is Sept. 6

GREEN BAY — A University of Wisconsin-Green Bay faculty clarinet recital will fill the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts’ Fort Howard Hall with music at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6.

The event is free and open to the public. The Weidner Center is on the UW-Green Bay campus at 2420 Nicolet Drive.

UW-Green Bay Prof. Eric Hansen on the clarinet will be accompanied by Prof. David Severtson on piano.

Musical selections include Béla Kovács’ “Hommage à M. de Falla”; John Ireland’s “Fantasy-Sonata”; a selection of Folk Songs by Eric Mandat; Claude Debussy’s “La Fille aux cheveaux de lin” (The Girl with the Flaxen Hair); Joseph Horovitz’s “Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano”; and Antonio Bazzini’s “La Ronde Des Lutins” (The Round of the Goblins).

Prof. Hansen is an assistant professor of music at UW-Green Bay. He teaches Applied Clarinet, Music Theory, Survey of Western Music, Woodwind Ensemble, Woodwind Techniques, and directs the Phoenix Pep Band.

A native of Wyoming, Hansen is an active performer. He has appeared in numerous recitals and concert venues in Arizona, Kentucky, Minnesota, Tennessee, Utah, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and internationally in Ostend, Belgium. He has performed on several professional recordings as the principal clarinetist of the University of Kentucky Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra and as a member of the Arizona State University Wind Symphony.

Prof. Severtson coordinates the piano program at UW-Green Bay, teaching studio piano lessons, keyboard musicianship, first-year ear training and Survey of Western Art Music. Severtson maintains an active performing career as a soloist and collaborative artist, including performances on faculty and guest artist recitals at Luther College, St. Olaf College and Bemidji State University. He also has appeared in concert series in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio, Washington and Wisconsin and currently serves as accompanist for the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
