Stangel accepts Director of Development role with UW-Green Bay

A UW-Green Bay alumna with extensive campus and community ties has been appointed Director of Development within the University Advancement division at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Jeanne A. Stangel will begin her new duties May 1. Assistant Chancellor for University Advancement Beverly Carmichael announced the appointment today (Tuesday, April 10) to conclude a national search.
Stangel currently serves as associate athletic director, senior women’s athletics administrator and director of the Phoenix Fund, the fundraising arm of UW-Green Bay Athletics.
“Jeanne has nearly 25 years experience with this University as a student, administrator, proud alumna and advocate,” Carmichael said. “She is widely respected by alumni, friends of the University, campus colleagues and those who know her through her recent fundraising and administrative work with Phoenix Athletics.
“We are delighted she has agreed to bring her experience, skills and enthusiasm to the University Advancement division for the benefit of the entire institution, our students and our future.”
Stangel’s responsibilities will include a lead role in annual fundraising campaigns on behalf of the University, alumni giving, planned giving, prospect and donor analysis, gift and donor stewardship, and supervision of alumni, donor relations and support staff. She will also assist in shaping the division’s comprehensive development plan and in pursuing major gifts on behalf of the University.
Stangel is a 1987 Business Administration graduate of UW-Green Bay. She has held marketing and management positions with IBM in Wausau and The An-Ser Service, Medalcraft Mint and TufcoTechnologies, Inc., of Green Bay. She was a member of the executive leadership team and senior manager of customer services and corporate relations for Tufco, a publically traded company, from 2002-2006. In previous stints with the University, previous to her current position with Athletics, she has served as director of government and community relations, special assistant to the chancellor, and assistant athletics director.
Her lengthy record of community involvement and professional affiliations includes current service as a board member and president-elect of the Women’s Fund of Greater Green Bay. She is active with the Green Bay Preble Optimists and the Management Women organization, earning the latter’s 2010 Nancy A. Felhofer Award for Leadership.
Stangel was inducted in 1993 as a charter member of the UW-Green Bay Athletics Hall of Fame. A native of the Algoma area, she played from 1984-87 and as Jeanne Barta still ranks first and third, respectively, on the all-time Phoenix women’s basketball rebounding and scoring lists.
Stangel succeeds fellow UW-Green Bay alumnus Shane Kohl, who resigned from the University in 2011 to accept a development position with the Trout Museum of Art in his hometown of Appleton. The Director of Development position has since been expanded in scope and responsibilities with recent reorganization of the Advancement division and the establishment of the UW-Green Bay Foundation, Inc.
