Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ on stage at UW-Green Bay

GREEN BAY — William Shakespeare makes an appearance on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus through his romantic comedy, “Much Ado About Nothing.”

UW-Green Bay Theatre presents the play April 24-25, April 30, and May 1-2, on the University Theatre stage on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive. All show times are at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for UW-Green Bay students. Tickets at the door are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students.

“Much Ado About Nothing” finds Benedick, a confirmed bachelor, and Beatrice, who is unwilling to submit to a controlling husband, in a prolonged battle of wits. The two constantly compete to outdo each other with clever insults while their friends conspire to make each believe that the other is in love with them.
Beatrice tests Benedick’s love by asking him to defend the honor of her cousin Hero, who has been slandered by Benedick’s best friend.

Prof. John Mariano directs a cast of 20 student actors and is supported by student crewmembers.

“If you’ve never seen a Shakespearean production before, this is a great place to start,” Mariano said. “Even on its 410th birthday, the play remains a fresh and funny romantic comedy.”
