UW-Green Bay offering new course as part of Hmong National Conference
GREEN BAY — The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and Hmong National Development, Inc., a national advocacy organization working to advance the interests of Hmong Americans, have announced the availability of a one-credit undergraduate and graduate course as part of the upcoming 14th Hmong National Conference scheduled for April 3-5 at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton.
UW-Green Bay Prof. Pao Lor, assistant professor of Education, will teach the online course in conjunction with the national conference. The course is available through the UW-Green Bay Education Outreach program (www.uwgb.edu/educationoutreach).
“The opportunity for UW-Green Bay to offer a one-credit course with the Hmong National Development Conference is our commitment to advance social issues that are critical to students and the community,” Lor said. “We look forward to future ventures with Hmong National Development, Inc.”
The course, Building Partnerships for Success: Embracing Ideas from the Hmong National Conference, is an opportunity for students, professionals and community members to learn and engage in dialogues about the Hmong community in regard to capacity building, leadership development, advocacy and civic engagement, economic development, education and social justice.
Nou Vang, chief executive officer of Hmong National Development, said the course is a step forward in ensuring there is adequate follow-up to conference activities. It will help conference participants further explore the information and skills learned from the conference.
Registering for course credit — $357.02 for graduate credit or $211.84 for undergraduate credit — includes the cost of conference registration fees.
Course participants must attend a minimum of three sessions at the conference and participate in an online follow-up discussion from April 20-27.
