UW-Green Bay faculty to headline ‘DIALOGUES’ exhibition at Lawton Gallery
The Lawton Gallery at UW-Green Bay will present “DIALOGUES,” a new exhibition featuring the works of four Art faculty members, Feb. 7-28 in Theatre Hall on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
The exhibit will kick off with an opening reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, with brief remarks from the artists at 5 p.m. The faculty artists and their works are as follows:
• Prof. Kristy Deetz (painting/drawing) will be showing two sets of new works. One is a triptych utilizing encaustic and beeswax on wood panels; the other is comprised of nine works titled Through the Veil.
• Associate Prof. Sarah Detweiler (photography) will be featuring a series of nine photographs, some of which were taken during a winter break 2012-13 visit to the island of Bimini, in the Bahamas.
• Prof. Carol Emmons (art history/drawing) will present a work titled Fragments of kosmos, which documents an environment addressing questions of knowing the world — the role of direct experience, transmitted through knowledge, and gender viewed through the life of Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859).
• Prof. Christine Style (printmaking/intermediate drawing) will be showing a series of woodcuts with hand painting; one copper etching and aquatint; and an artists’ accordion book featuring monotypes with watercolor and collage.
In addition to opening remarks Feb. 7, the exhibition will feature gallery talks with the artists discussing their works. Style will offer the first such talk from noon-1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, and the dates and times of other talks will be announced. Each talk is free and open to the public.
The Lawton Gallery is located in the Theatre Hall Building, Room 230, and is open during fall and spring semesters. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
