Kneiser to Make History, Become First Phoenix Alum to Debut on PGA Tour
Oconomowoc native and 2020 UW-Green Bay graduate makes cut for Wyndham Championship
Kneiser shot four-under-par 32 on the inward nine during yesterday’s open qualifying, finished with a six-under 65 and sharing low honors with Cooper Musselman, a former University of Kentucky golfer.
“I really wouldn’t say I did anything special — just played consistent golf throughout the day,” Kneiser told Wisconsin.Golf. “It’s funny when people ask because often times ‘boring golf’ is really the best golf. I was in the fairway a good amount and just trying to hit greens and see if I couldn’t get some putts to drop.”
“It felt really good once I knew I was in,” he continued. “It’s a good sign of confirmation that I’m doing the right things, my hard work is starting to translate to results and my game is trending in the right direction!”.
Kneiser has had quite the journey to the PGA Tour, making stops with PGA Tour Canada, PGA Tour Americas, and the Korn Ferry Tour. The Oconomowoc, Wisconsin native went into yesterday’s event having missed the cut for the Cedar Rapids Open but responded with one of the best rounds of his life on Monday.
He will head to Sedgefield Country Club in North Carolina and compete against the likes of previous major winners, including Jordan Spieth, Brian Harman, and Keegan Bradley. The Wyndham Championship is slated for August 8-11 (Thursday-Sunday). Fans will have a chance to watch George on a variety of platforms, including the Golf Channel, ESPN+, and Peacock. Coverage will be carried nationally on CBS starting at 3:00 PM CST on Saturday and Sunday.
