UW-Green Bay Mourns Loss of Gerald “Jerry” Danforth

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay mourns the loss of Gerald “Jerry” Danforth, who passed away last week.

Danforth was Chancellor Michael Alexander’s first appointment to the Council of Trustees in 2021 and played a vital role in advancing the First Nations Program. He also contributed meaningfully through his service on the Social Justice Committee, where his leadership helped drive important changes that broadened internship access and opportunity for all students.

Beyond his contributions to UW-Green Bay, Danforth had a distinguished career in service to our country and the Oneida Nation. He retired from the United States Navy in 1994 as the Force Master Chief of the Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, after serving in both the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. He went on to serve two terms as Chairman of the Oneida Nation (1999 and 2005), where his leadership helped expand Indian gaming interests, strengthen economic development, and advance priorities in health care, higher education and language preservation.

Services were held on both Friday and Saturday. Please refer to the following link for full details and obituary.

Jerry Danforth was a dedicated leader, advocate and public servant whose impact will be felt for years to come. While we mourn his loss, we also honor the legacy he leaves behind.
