Students ease tax time burden with free assistance to those in need

It’s that time of year again — the holidays are a memory, the Super Bowl is just around the corner … and W-2s are en route, marking the indisputable beginning of tax season. Once again this year, UW-Green Bay students are providing free income tax assistance for low-income individuals and families, the elderly and students through the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Return preparation begins the week of Feb. 3 and will run through April 1, with time off for spring break the week of March 16. Assistance is available from 5-8 p.m. Tuesdays at the Brown County Library, 515 Pine St.; and 5-8 p.m. Wednesdays at The Salvation Army, 626 Union Court. Appointments are required and can be made by calling (920) 465-2575. A list of required documentation for taxpayers and other info is available at www.uwgb.edu/vita, or check out our news release.
