GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Updated enrollment numbers from the Universities of Wisconsin show the campus is the fastest-growing university in the statewide system.
According to fall 2023 enrollment numbers, UWGB has 10,338 students.
“That puts us now as the third largest comprehensive within the UW System, which is amazing,” said UW-Green Bay Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Kate Burns.
That’s up 7.6% from last fall. The growth has come in a number of ways.
“So, obviously within our high school students, so that includes both the college credit in high school, as well as our Rising Phoenix students. You know, seeing the large incoming class for our new freshmen, as well as our graduate students and seeing the growth there,” said Burns.
The enrollment data comes a day after UW-Green Bay notified all employees it’s considering discontinuing a number of majors and minors.
Those majors are Economics, Environmental Policy and Planning, as well as Theatre and Dance.
The minors being considered for discontinuation are International Environmental Studies, Geography and Physics.
“This is natural. It’s part of evolving with the times,” said UW-Green Bay Chancellor Michael Alexander in an interview with FOX 11 on Tuesday. “So, we’re not cutting. We’re only talking about how to evolve those programs.”
UW-Green Bay’s Faculty Senate held their monthly meeting Wednesday.
Burns stressed any decision would not affect current students.
“We need to teach students out. We have an obligation,” added Burns. “So current students, current majors and minors would not be impacted here by any sort of decisions.”
After the meeting ended, there was no further comment on the matter. UW-Green Bay is continuing discussions.
