With substance-related deaths surging and new synthetic drugs entering the market over the past two decades, the capacity for communities to help those caught up in addiction from drugs and alcohol has been overwhelmed.  But a new partnership between the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay and Sheboygan County-based Mental Health America hopes to tip the scales in favor of recovery.

The resulting Addiction Recovery Certificate Program is designed with a two-fold target in mind, both professionals and allies of those hoping to live free of addiction.

The statistics paint a clear picture of the challenges: Statewide, alcohol-induced deaths have surged by 142% since 2005, and since 2010, deaths resulting from synthetic opioids like fentanyl have jumped twenty-fold.  According to MHA-Lakeshore executive Director, Julie Preder, the Addiction Recovery Certificate Program builds critical knowledge and skills in order to meet immediate needs head-on.  She said that “By offering accessible, high-quality training, the program helps strengthen the workforce, supports individuals on their recovery journey and ensures more people have the compassionate, informed care they deserve.”

The two tiers of registration fees are $59 for the Addiction Recovery Certificate Program for professionals, while the ally version costs $25.  More more information, visit UWGB online.
