There’s a walk to support the wildlife sanctuary, deals for Green Bay’s 920 Week, an Elton John tribute concert, and more.

Take advantage of the summer weather this weekend while it’s still warm with one of several festivals or celebrations in the city as well as the opening of two haunted attractions.

Here are things going on in the Green Bay area this weekend.

Deals for 920 Week

Celebrate all things Green Bay during 920 Week. There will be events all week long to highlight the city, culminating in Sept. 20.

9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau

For the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington, people can join the annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field as a tribute to the firefighters who lost their lives at the World Trade Center. Climb the equivalent of 110 stories of the towers on Lambeau’s steps.

Climbers will carry a badge with the name of a fallen firefighter. Nearly 2,300 people joined the climb last year. The event is 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sept. 20. Register and enter at the Kwik Trip Gate and parking is available in Lot 6 on South Ridge Road.

Registration is $45 and is open 3-6 p.m. Sept. 19 or starting at 8 a.m. Sept. 20. The opening ceremony is at 9 a.m. Sept. 20. Proceeds go to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. More information is at piercemfg.com/climb.

Elton John tribute

“Fantastic: A Tribute to Elton John” featuring Even Stephens is coming to the Meyer Theatre. Hear hits like “Rocket Man,” “Bennie and the Jets,” and “Candle in the Wind.”

Tickets are $39.50-$56.75 on Ticket Star. The show is at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Meyer Theatre, 117 S. Washington St.

Midwest Viking Festival

The Midwest Viking Festival returns to UW-Green Bay this week. Celebrate Scandinavian history with craft traditions, food, stories, and more. You can also tour the Viking House with the builders of the home. The festival will be off the Wood Hall Parking Lot on UW-Green Bay’s campus.

The festival is free and is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 19 and 20. More information and the schedule is at uwgb.edu/viking-house/midwest-viking-festival/.

Green Bay Fear, Terror on the Fox open this weekend

Two Green Bay-area haunted attractions will open this weekend:

  • Green Bay Fear: It’s open 6:45-11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays from Sept. 19-Nov. 1. It’s at the Beja Shrine Center, 1950 Bond St., Howard. Cost is $20 general admission and $30 for fast pass.
  • Terror on the Fox: Gates open at 7 p.m. on select nights Sept. 20-Nov. 2 at the National Railroard Museum, 2285 S. Broadway, Ashawaubneon. Tickets start at $19.99; other nights are $24.99.

3 Sisters Pow-Wow

Everyone is welcome at the 3 Sisters Pow-Wow to celebrate Native drumming, art and dance, including the Oneida Smoke Dance and over 35 craft and art vendors. Grand Entry is at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The pow-wow is 1-10 p.m. Sept. 20 at Oneida Hotel, 2040 Airport Drive. The event is free.

Walk for Wildlife

Support animals at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary by joining the annual Walk for Wildlife.

Proceeds go to the wildlife rehabilitation program to help orphaned or injured wild animals that are brought to the wildlife sanctuary. Meet the animal ambassadors at different stations and get a collector’s pin with the river otter mascots’ faces. Check out the food trucks, live music and the raffle.

Register for the walk for $20 for adults and $10 for kids at walkwildlife.com. The walk is 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sept. 20.

Big Event for Kids

The Big Event for Kids, led by Encompass, has hands-on activities for kids. The free community event is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 20 at Heritage Hill State Park, 2640 S. Webster Ave. There will be a petting zoo, food trucks, and a snack shack. More information is at encompasswi.org.
