GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Brown County has thousands of nonprofit organizations. The University of Wisconsin is adding new programs for women to find leadership roles in the nonprofits.

The university announced courses this fall that will offer certifications for people working with nonprofits.

These are non-credit courses that focus on leadership development.

“I think a lot of it will be about strategy, as every leader has to strategize how they’re going to grow their impact and grow their organization. Individuals in these programs can help develop those approaches so they can more effective leaders, help manage a team, help manage conflict and grow through change as we’re seeing exponential growth in every industry,” UWGB executive officer of continuing education and workforce training Jess Lambrecht said.

The university says the programs are a direct response to community feedback.

According to data, women make up 75% of the workforce in nonprofits but only 22% of CEOs.

Nonprofits working with limited budgets can find it challenging to open up opportunities for growth.

UW-Green Bay officials say these programs will help women network, work more effectively, and help with strategy through small groups and one-on-one coaching.

The university says these programs are a direct response to community feedback — and the feedback it received has been a need for more support.

“We’ve identified in these programs who both have an expertise in these sectors who can provide support in that way, but we’ve seen an increased demand of individuals who are looking for more than one-on-one and they need a little bit more flexibility than a pre-programmed program might offer them,” Lambrecht said.

There are three courses that start this fall, and you can still sign up.

The courses include:

  • Executive Coaching for Nonprofit Leaders – Offered as part of UW-Green Bay’s Nonprofit Education and Development Network, enrollees in this online program will receive personalized coaching and consultation to help nonprofit professionals navigate complex challenges and lead with clarity.
  • Women in Healthcare Leadership Series – This fully online program addresses the unique challenges and opportunities for women leading in the healthcare sector and is a collaboration between the Schreiber Institute for Women’s Leadership and the Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Training.

The first two courses mentioned above are in-person and last about six months. The other is fully online and goes for six weeks.
