University of Wisconsin-Green Bay opening brand new disc golf course, open to community and students | WFRV
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – A newly designed disc golf course is set to open on Saturday, Aug. 17, on the campus of UW-Green Bay (UWGB), and it’ll be available for all to use.
The Shorewood Disc Golf Course was designed by a professional disc golfer, Cale Leiviska, according to a Thursday release from UWGB. Leiviska is also a national course designer, and he will be the first to toss a disc as the course opens in time for the 2024 fall semester.
The Shorewood property has been transformed over the past two years by UWGB, turning it into the current park, which is a community space for people in the area to host programs and activities.
Disc Golf has been growing rapidly in Wisconsin and the world as a whole. In 2023 alone, there were 1,245 new courses installed worldwide, according to UDisc. As of 2023, there are 15,205, doubling the total from the end of 2017.
