Countdown 2 The Draft: Plans in the works to secure enough parking for the NFL Draft
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – 274 days and counting!
Next April’s NFL Draft is expected to bring hundreds of thousands of people to the Green Bay area, significantly more than a home Packers game.
That got us wondering… where will all those people park their cars?
In this edition of our Countdown 2 The Draft series, Kristyn Allen learns about what’s in the works.
For those who live close to Lambeau Field, selling parking spaces in their yards and driveways is nothing new.
It’s an option for those heading to the draft in April, as well as for those who live in the shadows of Lambeau Field and look to cash in on the demand for parking spaces.
Joanne Bornick lives on the 1500 block of Briquelet Street and is selling at least 10 spaces in her yard for $50 each, putting an ad out on Craigslist.
“For one thing, I know the draft is going to be really big with a lot of people and the premium parking that will be available might be a lot more than mine,” said Bornick. “So I thought I could give it a try. I’m only two and a half, barely three blocks from the stadium.”
One place you won’t find parking is at Lambeau Field. The majority of the area around the stadium and at Titletown will be used for the draft and related activities and events, but plans for off-site parking and shuttles are in the works.
”There’s definitely a few options that we’ve been looking at,” said Nick Meisner, the vice president of digital marketing and communications for Discover Green Bay. “There’s a lot of large parking spaces around the community. They’ve been talking about various school parking lots, NWTC, UWGB, out in Howard, the park and rides along the highway.”
There are also talks with Lamers to potentially help provide transportation.
”In talking with the folks in Kansas City and Detroit and Cleveland, some of the more recent drafts, we’d be looking to do about 300 buses or so to make it work,” said Meisner.
Discover Green Bay encourages you to download the NFL OnePass app now. There you will find all the information you need during the draft about parking, shuttles, and more.
Plans for parking are expected to be finalized in early fall.
