UWGB won’t start fall sports on time | Green Bay Press Gazette
There won’t be any sports played at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay until at least October.
The Horizon League announced Thursday it will delay the start of fall competition for all sports because of the coronavirus pandemic. It includes all exhibition, conference and nonconference games.
The sports impacted at UWGB include cross country, soccer, volleyball, golf and softball.
Golf and softball have fall competition but do not have a Horizon League championship season until the spring.
The Horizon League Council said it will continue to be guided by the health, safety and well-being of student-athletes, coaches and staff.
“A delay to no earlier than Oct. 1 allows Green Bay to focus on ensuring return to competition protocols uphold the league’s principle of safety and can be reasonably implemented based on evolving information relative to testing, contact tracing, health care capacity and city and state guidelines,” UWGB athletic director Charles Guthrie said.
