UW-Green Bay camps featured in Press-Gazette story on summer learning loss

UW-Green Bay summer camps once again made the front page of the Green Bay Press-Gazette this weekend, with a centerpiece photo from last week’s middle school music camp and an interview with camps director Mona Christensen. The story’s topic was summer learning loss, the phenomenon of K-12 students losing some of their academic skills during the extended annual break. Christensen spoke with reporter Patti Zarling about the wide variety of UW-Green Bay summer camps — about 2,000 kids participate each summer — and the myriad benefits for students who attend. “Camp gives kids a chance to really focus, to spend a whole day working on something they care about,” Christensen said. “These kids are interacting with UW-Green Bay faculty — that just ignites these kids.” UW-Green Bay summer camps focus on topics including science, music, art, computers and more.
