New disc golf course at UWGB’s Shorewood property to open this summer
GREEN BAY (WLUK) — A former golf course on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus will soon reopen — as a disc golf course.
University officials say the new Shorewood Disc Golf Course will open Aug. 17.
The course is designed by nationally known disc golf designer and pro Cale Leiviska.
The disc golf course is the latest change to the property since UWGB shut down the golf course in 2021, citing its “drain” on resources. Since then, the university has created a cross-country course used by middle school to college teams. It is set to host the Horizon League championships this year.
The cross-country trail is groomed for the UWGB Nordic ski program in the winter, as well as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and fat tire biking.
The former clubhouse has been converted into University Recreation‘s main office. Events for students include kayaking and canoeing, hiking, bike riding and classes on survival topics, wilderness medicine, and camping. It also offers outdoor equipment rentals to the public.

“It’s exciting to see the vision of the Shorewood property starting to really take shape,” Ethan Harvey, outdoor adventure recreation coordinator for the UREC programs, said in a news release.
“Shorewood Park represents an amazing opportunity for both UW-Green Bay students and the community to explore the outdoors, enjoy time together, and create a community around this beautiful, predominantly natural space. I am really excited about how we are opening up this space to multiple user groups like runners, walkers, birders, bikers, and disc golfers — really making this area available for a wide range of users. I can’t wait to see where Shorewood Parks takes us in the coming years as the vision for the property continues to shape itself.”
Funding for the disc golf course comes from the UW-Green Bay Student Government Association and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Foundation. Donations are also accepted online.
