Art workshops offered at UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus | News, Sports, Jobs – The Daily News

Marinette, Wis. — University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Marinette Campus is offering two art workshops in August to spark creativity and nurture innovative minds.

“The Magic of Mixed Media” will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, in the Art Studio T-149 in the Theatre building on the Marinette Campus. The workshop will feature a combination of painting and collage for ages 10 to 15. Participants will create a mixed-media painting on canvas using acrylic paint, followed by layering upcycled scrap materials and fibers.

“Fun with Fibers” takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, also in the Art Studio T-149 in the Theatre building on the Marinette Campus. Students ages 10 to 15 will explore the world of fiber arts and soft sculpture, learning the basics of weaving, felting, quilting and embroidery techniques that they can do at home using a few simple supplies, upcycled materials and a lot of creativity.

Registration is open. To reserve a spot, go to the UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus Youth Art Workshop web site.

Register for both workshops at $50 or separately at $30 each. The cost includes lunch and supplies. Both workshops are taught by Brenda Socha, an art instructor at Marinette Middle School.

Socha is a member of the Wisconsin Art Education Association and also the National Art Education Association. When she’s not teaching and sharing what she knows about art, she loves creating her own art — especially mixed media paintings and upcycled leather jewelry, but also pencil drawing, acrylic painting and pottery. She has a degree in art education.

The workshops have been developed by the Division of Continuing Education and Community Engagement at UW-Green Bay.

To learn more about the workshops, go to UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus Community Theatre and Arts web page. For more information or to ask questions, contact Program Specialist Lauryn Albaugh at albaughl@uwgb.edu.
