‘Life-changing’ scholarships awarded to 4 Green Bay West students | WLUK

GREEN BAY (WLUK) — The future is looking particularly bright for four seniors from Green Bay West High School.

During a signing day ceremony at the school Wednesday, four students were honored for their hard work and congratulated on what lays ahead of them.

Through the support of West alum Jim Ryan and his wife Tracy, Charlie Brault received a full-tuition scholarship to Marquette University.

The Ryans established the Do Great Things Initiative to encourage and support West students in their college pursuits.

The initiative encourages other community members to form “close the gap” scholarships like the ones that will support Ivan Grant and Giselle Morelos Balbuena during their time at Marquette.

“We came up during COVID of this concept of the Do Great Things Initiative,” said Jim Ryan. “It was never just designed to be a scholarship — it was designed to be an initiative and a program or platform that was not just about scholarships.”

Another scholarship, titled A Community Who Cares, will support Derek Thepphone’s studies at UW-Green Bay.

Each of these scholarships will be awarded annually to the students.
