Cofrin Library bids farewell to Phoenix Rising as UWGB campus transformation begins | Fox 11

GREEN BAY (WLUK) — An iconic statue on the UW-Green Bay campus took flight to its new location.

The 13-foot “Phoenix Rising” statue perched outside the Cofrin Library since 2019, migrated to its new, permanent home on campus Thursday.

Crews lifted the statue made of steel and stainless steel using a crane and transported it across campus on a flatbed to be installed in front of the Kress Events Center.

The statue was moved as construction starts on the new Cofrin Technology and Education Center (CTEC) which will replace the 52-year-old, eight-story Cofrin Library.

“It really shows the transformation of campus. It’s migrating from the Cofrin Library, our iconic building, over to the Kress Center where athletics is on the rise. So it will be in front of the Kress Events Center and will welcome visitors there,” said vice chancellor Dawn Crim.

Phoenix Rising was designed by artist and Green Bay native, Carl Vanderheyden.
